About Kaigi

A Day of Meaningful Dialogue
25th August 2018
KYUEM

KYUEM Kaigi is an internal conference jointly-hosted by the KYUEM Debate Union and Model United Nations Club. The conference aims to provide students with a platform to discuss important global issues through the lens of Malaysia. The conference will run in four different councils each with their specific discussion topic. The four councils are Economics, Science and Technology, Social Policy and Politics. Students will also get the opportunity to engage with esteemed professionals from the respective councils through an Academic Talk and Panel Symposium whereby students are encouraged to ask thoughtful questions.

"In the face of collective delusions, hear not the things which are said, but that which are left unsaid. If you can't hear anything, then it's your turn to speak."

About Kaigi

The Theme

The Way Forward: Global Issues Through the Malaysian Eye

Malaysia is at a critical juncture in its 61-year history. The recent democratic shift in power has been described by the New York Times as “...the greatest event in Malaysian history since its independence...” in 1957.

This presents an opportunity for this country to move forward in creating a ‘Malaysia Baharu’, or ‘New Malaysia’, that is progressive, innovative, and exemplary in promoting equality for its people.

Thus, dialogue we engage in today will play a crucial role in shaping the Malaysia we envision.

Youth involvement is undeniably an integral aspect of the way forward for Malaysia. Thus, in the spirit of ‘Malaysia Baharu’, KYUEM Kaigi 2018 hopes to provide a platform for the youth to gain exposure and grant them a platform for this crucial discussion.

This theme also allows students to explore a wide range of issues, whether they are issues that directly affect Malaysia or the wider international scene. This lets students debate and discuss not just issues close to their hearts as Malaysians, but also issues regarding the future that affect the globe as a whole.
